Employees are helping promote Stars for Scholars, a nationwide fundraiser to benefit Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots). On a hot July afternoon in 2005 two uniformed officers came to the door of Laura Youngblood’s brother’s house. She was visiting him in New York. Back in Illinois, her house was prepped for a homecoming. Her husband Travis Youngblood would be returning from Iraq soon, and she already had the “Welcome Home” signs up. But that day, she saw the two officers and knew immediately why they were there. The Sebastian resident had met her husband in boot camp. Theirs was a love story defined by life in the military and upon Travis' tragic death. Laura's coping with the loss of the man who gave up everything for his family.

"She found a way": Gold Star Daughter to Run Shamrock Marathon in Memory of Fallen Father

Air National Guard Sgt. Gregory Skurupey was on a plane in 2001, hours from ringing in his 35th birthday. The plane carrying Skurupey and 17 other national guardsmen crashed in a Georgia field. A little over a week ago, Sheridan Skurupey counted 17 years since the last time she saw her father. She was five years old. This Sunday, Sheridan will lace up her sneakers and run 26.2 miles in the Shamrock Marathon in honor of her fallen father. By running, she'll also raise funds for other Gold Star children.
