JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville's newest live music venue is set to open its doors in the city's historic Five Points area Tuesday following months of delays.
FIVE, which will open in the former Sun-Ray Cinema building, will hold its first concert Tuesday night. BoyWithUke, a 22-year-old Korean-American who garnered popularity on TikTok, will headline the venue's first concert.
The venue announced a lineup of upcoming concerts featuring Jacksonville-native Lil Poppa, indie-alt rock group Turnover, former Disney stars Aly & AJ and Grammy-nominated rock icons Bowling For Soup.
The 1927 theater underwent renovations beginning in August, but facility managers said the building's historic exterior and marquee were preserved. Original glass, plasterwork and wood were also saved.
Sun-Ray Cinema had inhabited the building since 2011 before holding its final showing on July 6, 2024.
The venue now features a new expanded balcony space, lighting and sound systems, modern amenities including a VIP loft in the original projection booth and upgraded restrooms. The venue has a capacity of 1,250, according to officials.
Marathon Live will manage the venue and is continuing work to develop a larger venue within the Dennis + Ives project in Jacksonville's Rail Yard district.
"It has been an incredibly fun challenge to rework this amazing theater to host live performances again,” said Josh Billue, chief development officer for Marathon Live. “We are excited to be a part of the Five Points community and we can't wait to welcome people back to a building Jacksonville has known for nearly 100 years."
The venue was previously slated to open in January, but was pushed back due to construction delays. The first 17 shows scheduled at the venue had to be canceled or postponed.
